The Turmtheater was founded in 2008 and has staged a comedy every year since then. The 6–7 performances per year are regularly sold out. Anyone interested in theatre is always welcome.
Literature has been a central part of the association’s cultural work throughout the years. For the past 30 years, the association has organised a reading competition for Year 6 pupils. Members of the writing workshop present their work at the association’s events. Well-known actors are also invited to give readings.
For many years, the local historians have made a significant contribution to researching the history of Althaldensleben in particular. Their articles have appeared in numerous brochures. The film ‘Auf den Spuren unserer Zeit’ (In the Footsteps of Our Time) was produced with their active support.
As well as being part of our association, the rose enthusiasts belong to the wider community of the Society of German Rose Enthusiasts. In addition to monthly talks on garden and park culture, they organise the Open Garden Days every year.
The newest working group within our association is the Video Group. Its main aim is to inspire children and young people in particular to engage with new media. So far, in collaboration with Offener Kanal Stendal, they have produced the film “Auf den Spuren unserer Zeit”. Video enthusiasts of all ages, from 7 to 70, produce short videos about cultural life in the region and share them on the ‘HDL-Kultur’ YouTube channel.
When refugees had to be accommodated and looked after in Haldensleben in 2015, a number of local residents decided to invite them to join in singing together. This led to the formation of the One World Choir. The focus is not on artistic perfection, but on singing together. This is also evident during performances, where the spark usually catches on and the audience joins in. It is not uncommon for new singers to be welcomed afterwards.
The Haldensleben Artists’ Guild was founded shortly after the Second World War. Since then, many artists have created a large number of remarkable works of art. As well as painting, the guild also practises printmaking techniques (woodcut, lithography) and sculpture. An annual exhibition takes place every year at the KulturFabrik.
The promotion of chamber music has always been a key focus of the association’s work. At present, a group of musicians meet every Friday to rehearse at the KulturFabrik. Young musicians are urgently sought to join the group.
